TESTBED is a newly renovated 10,000 sq foot event venue in Leeds that offers endless possibilities for creating unique and inspiring experiences. Our blank canvas space can be transformed to suit any occasion, from intimate gatherings to large-scale productions.

TESTBED is coming alive in iterations

(1.1 thru 1.9). A bit like software, it works from the start, but over time upgrades and bug fixes happen to improve the user experience and provide more functionality.

We aim to create a space that Leeds really needs, a space that is shaped by the people that use it. We are currently at phase 1.3 - we build from there, always testing, always learning, and always improving.

We’re a small, passionate team here at TESTBED, and while we’d love to hire someone to focus on social media and content creation as a full role, it’s just not possible for us right now. So, we’ve come up with a unique alternative:

💻 A 250sqft office space at TESTBED in exchange for some of your time and skills!

From where we were, to where we are 🙌

TESTBED is large, but we’re a small family run venue, (there’s literally just 3 TESTBED employees, inc the 2 founders) some times you can get a bit sidetracked in the day to day running of a business and forget just how far you’ve come.

Coming alive in iterations is a smart way to go in the long run- you test, trial, change and adapt but for a little team with big dreams of huge experience output, we can sometimes get a bit frustrated on the long journey. We just want to make all the big things happen right away but alas, budgets are the take your time kind ☺️

We were just reminding ourselves in the office of what the space was not so long ago and so we thought we would highlight them here too 👆

New in 1.3 - The Screen - it’s massive.

We now have a 55 foot projection screen.

That’s wider than a three-lane motorway!

Presentations, screenings, and event visuals.

It’s a massive impact - all in-house.

As part of our 1.3 launch, we recently had a full venue setup photoshoot.

A whole range of suppliers got involved to showcase the layout/decor possibilities of TESTBED. Formal dining settings, theatre-style layouts, cabaret tables, and banqueting setups.

The whole experience helped us to not only see what was possible in the space in these layouts but also what could be possible, and it’s so much more than just pictured here. Our space really is perfect for so many gatherings with a multi-use function.

Have you met our neighbours?- @DukeMakes our sister company is a purpose-built 3D design and digital manufacturing studio - an agency for making, located just two doors down from TESTBED on Butterley Street. They provide an accessible, high-quality design and manufacturing service for event providers, artists, architects, designers, DIYers, and more.

For TESTBED, they offer in-house production services, plus a whole load of design and build options. Their studio is packed with amazing equipment: CNC cutting, 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, and Vinyl Cutting. 🚀✨plus an incredible team of designers and creators.

Recently they have become a @wikihouse manufacturer and have been using our triple heighted space to build full on buildings - we are looking forward to showing you that and them in action.

They have also just set up @cncpeople which is dedicated service for all things CNC. Go follow that if you want to geek out.

We're plotting and planning ‘UnderTheMezz’ for 2025.

With our phase 1.25 developments going live in September, the smaller area underneath the mezzanine in TESTBED gains a host of new functionalities, making it easier to host amazing events. We're working on different ways of doing things for a 500-800 capacity club/performance space, with some exciting ideas in the works to tackle today's industry challenges.

Here's a look back at when we held a one-off special ‘Midnight’ event UnderTheMezz with a ‘Scrapheap Chic’ theme – it was all-out fun for sure.

Recently @Adobe hosted their Create Now event at our venue! 🎉

The space buzzed with creativity, connection, and innovation as @Adobecreate brought together brilliant minds to share ideas and insights all fueled by the incredible food from @luigistreetfood.

It was an evening filled with energy and inspiration from inspiring keynotes from @matvoyce to interactive workshops from @iamkladi.

It was a joy to have so many creative minds in the space and it was great to see all the latest features of their software.

Looking back to the beginning of our test events to when we had the pleasure of hosting the third event in the space, it was a special one indeed - a wedding! TEST_003 was not a test for Ben & Emily, but the real deal, and we were honored to help them celebrate all aspects of their big day, from the ceremony to the drinks reception, meal, speeches, karaoke, band, DJs, and dancing - they had the works, all under our roof.

We’re pleased to announce that our core staff has just completed Naloxone training, equipping them to carry and administer this life-saving drug. (More info below.) This is a significant step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone who visits our venue. Thanks to @forwardleeds for coming over to train us.

At TESTBED, we’re committed to harm prevention in nightlife. That’s why we’re exploring various ways to enhance our efforts.

We would love to see more drug testing options and are encouraged by the recent reinstatement of licensed drug testing services. We are keen to work with organisations and charities like @theloop_uk and strive to see options for both front-of-house and back-of-house testing available to smaller-scale events and clubs. We hope the new government will adopt a more proactive and understanding approach to harm prevention than we have seen in recent years.

⁇ What is Naloxone ⁇

Naloxone, also known as Narcan in the US, is a life-saving medication that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose. It works by rapidly restoring normal breathing in someone who has overdosed on opioids, such as heroin, nitazenes, or prescription painkillers. Naloxone is safe to use and can be administered by injection or nasal spray by anyone who has received the appropriate training.

⁇ But TESTBED doesn’t have any history of opioid issues. Why is this needed ⁇

The drug market is changing, with synthetic opioids (nitazenes) now found in nearly every illegal substance. The Taliban's recent near-total ban on opium poppy cultivation in Afghanistan has led to a dramatic 95% reduction in opium production, which previously accounted for about 85% of global production. This has spurred a significant increase in the production of nitazenes like fentanyl, some of which are hundreds of times more potent than the opioids they mimic, and they are infiltrating the wider drug market.

What does this mean?

There's a limited time to lock in the current phase 1.2 hire prices for events at any point in the future. You can secure the 1.2 prices until September 5th. After that date, prices will increase to reflect the new developments.

“Fail We May, Sail We Must” - This memorial artwork dedicated to the late Andrew Weatherall will soon have a new home. The stunning mosaic by @maylizgood has been preserved from the redevelopment of the @sheafstreet site.

This piece is not only a tribute to a pivotal figure in musical history but also reflects our business journey post @sheafstreet.
We plan to put it back on public display as we continue our upgrades of the TESTBED building.

Although Andrew never got to play at TESTBED, we feel he would have, and we intend to update the tribute with information about its creation and Andrew’s incredible legacy. We might even throw a bit of a party when we unveil it – seems only right, doesn’t it?

Sometimes we work really hard on projects that just don’t come off. Here’s one of those. One of our founders @laurawelli worked with her @ingoodcompanyleeds hat on to create a super huge project for @testbedleeds working in collaboration with the incredibly talented artists @_murugiah and @molu_designs The project would have seen the whole building including the roof covered in an amazing art piece (we’re on the flight path into Leeds Bradford airport and would have been visablr flying into Leeds)

We submitted planning to Leeds City Council and it was rejected for being too distracting. (Check out @laurawelli post for more info on why and the project). We were devastated, not just for all the work that went into the project but also for the missed ops for artists and the City.

We think it’s a ridiculously good piece of art and the artists, even if it is digitally, should get their work seen.
